ABOUT THE JOLLY PROJECT

Connecting people. Sparking joy. Changing lives.

Who are we?

We believe joy is more than a feeling, it’s a powerful force for change.

The Jolly Project is a Derby and Nottingham-based charity using music, creativity, and connection to tackle loneliness and isolation. We bring people together across generations, backgrounds, and abilities, creating spaces where everyone belongs.

From sing-alongs in care homes, to community choirs referred through social prescribing, to school projects celebrating the stories of older adults, our work builds connection, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

Why we exist

Loneliness isn’t just about being alone, it can harm mental health, shorten lives, and leave people cut off from the support they need. Across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and beyond, people of all ages are feeling the effects, from older adults living alone to young people struggling after the pandemic.

We’re here to change that. We do it with music, creativity, and a great big jolly spirit.

Who we work with

We collaborate with:

  • Care homes

  • Schools and youth organisations

  • Community centres

  • Social prescribers

  • Local authorities and health partners

  • Volunteers, artists, and musicians who share our mission

Whether you’re 9 or  ninety, there’s a place for you in The Jolly Project.

' I didn’t know anyone when I came to my first session, but I left feeling like I belonged. It’s my weekly boost.' - Cathie, choir member
76% of people in social prescribing programmes report improved well-being, we see it in every smile, every song, every connection.
